History of the name “Earl Grey”

Earl Grey is a distinctive flavored black tea that is most commonly consumed in England with milk. There are two legends about the origin of its name, one of which says that the tea “Earl Grey” was named after Lord Charles Grey who was the British Prime Minister in 1830 and received the tea as a diplomatic gift from a grateful Chinese bureaucrat because one of Lord Grey’s men saved his son. The second legend states that it was also one of Grey’s men who saved the son, but in this version of an Indian nobleman.
