What is inhalation?

Inhalation is one of the most common forms of self-help to calm and open the airways and relieve the symptoms of a cold or sinus infection. It is also called steam therapy, and involves inhaling water vapor. Warm, moist air is thought to work by releasing mucus in the airways, throat and lungs. This can relieve the symptoms of inflamed, swollen blood vessels in the nasal passages.

What are the benefits of inhalation?

A stuffy nose triggers inflammation in the blood vessels of the sinuses. Blood vessels can become irritated due to an acute upper respiratory tract infection, such as a cold or a sinus infection.

The main benefit of inhaling moist, warm scented steam can ease the feeling of irritation and swollen blood vessels in your nasal passages. Moisture can also help dilute mucus in the sinuses, allowing them to be emptied more easily. This can allow your breathing to normalize, instantaneously or in the long term.

Usage: Add 5-10 drops for inhalation to half a liter of hot water, lean your head over the container, cover with a towel, and inhale (breathe in) through your nose for 10-15 minutes. Repeat as needed.
