Mint is a versatile plant that is used today in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries. Dried mint leaves are used to make tea.
Wild mint is growing everywhere in various forms. The Encyclopedia of wild edible herbs specifically describes water mint, longleaf mint, mountain mint, wild and cat mint. Mint is so widespread not only in our region but also on five continents, so scientists are also struggling and often arguing to classify it as accurately as possible in all its forms.
Although mint is most commonly presented as a green plant, in fact each of the 600 mint species have a flower, which is pink or white.
The medicinal parts of the mint are leaves or stems with leaves and flowers. Mint contains a large proportion of menthol, which is responsible for the smell and aroma of the mint and its refreshing taste.
Menthol activates receptors on the skin and tissues and gives it a cooling and refreshing feeling.
Mint tea is one of the most popular teas, along with green tea, which is regularly brewed in many homes and cafes when colder days come.
