History of the name “Earl Grey”
Earl Grey is a recognizable flavored black tea that is most commonly drunk in England with the addition of milk. There are two legends about the origin of his name where one of the legends says that “Earl Grey” tea was named after Lord Charles Grey who was the British Prime Minister in 1830 and received the tea as a diplomatic gift from a grateful Chinese bureaucrat because he is one of the Lord’s men saved his son. Another legend states that one of Grey’s men also saved his son, but in this version of an Indian nobleman. Namely, the first versions of this tea were prepared in India and Sri Lanka, which often leads to the conclusion that the second legend is more credible.
